Cheap Snare Drum

I Bought a Cheap Snare on eBay

I bought a cheap snare on eBay. It cost me £23, brand new! I made a video about it and stuck it up on YouTube. This was a more complicated video than I’ve made before (not that you’d know to look at it) and it was fun to work on. I’m working out how to make videos and there’s a long way to go, I think, before it starts looking good. I say too many ummmmms and uhhhhhhs, I feel… Read More »I Bought a Cheap Snare on eBay

That Mark Guiliana Is Quite Good And Why Do I Still Want Another Ride?

Mark Guiliana Actually, Mark Guiliana is bloody incredible. I hadn’t paid all that much attention to him until this random solo happened to catch my eye in the YouTube recommendations. I first stumbled upon Guiliana while letching at the Sabian HHX Groove Ride in this video: Then I searched for more. This solo came up, I was flabbergasted! The dude’s coordination is amazing. His compositional skills, the dynamics, the tension and release and sense of humour are all evident here.… Read More »That Mark Guiliana Is Quite Good And Why Do I Still Want Another Ride?

UK National Drum Fair Is This Weekend

This looks like a great event wot I have never been to. It takes place this coming weekend, Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of September. If you saw nothing else it would be worth the price of admission. The event… Read More »UK National Drum Fair Is This Weekend

Got A Pair Of Vic Firth SD4’s

I’ve been looking for some sticks to use for my weekly jazz set with the Gex trio. We have to play very very quietly most of the set. I am using brushes 80% of the time but need to swing some sticks on a couple of numbers. I tried the AJ2’s and the AJ6’s both pretty good. The 6’s feel really weird like playing with overgrown toothpicks but great for a really small sound. If I have to play anything… Read More »Got A Pair Of Vic Firth SD4’s

Stageworks Rimma and Mat – Sliced Bread Got Nothing

I went to the recent London 2012 Drum Show fully steeled against buying anything. It’s pleasant enough to go and see what’s what in the world of drums, to meet some drumming friends and colleagues and to see my students getting inspired. But the raison d’etre of these events is to sell and it’s my mission to resist. There is a recession on after all. I willed myself not to try any sticks or sample heads or buy books or… Read More »Stageworks Rimma and Mat – Sliced Bread Got Nothing
