Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky – New Orleans Groove

Getting off to a great start to 2023 with this fantastic tune written by Allen Toussaint and performed by Lee Dorsey and many others. I first heard Everything I Do Gonh be Funky performed by Dr John with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in the TV series Treme which was a gritty drama made by the guy who did The Wire about life in New Orleans. A great deal of the show focused on the life of musicians in the city which is responsible for so much of the greatest music the world has known so far.

The track was produced by Allen Toussaint and I believe the band was The Meters and therefore I am guessing there’s a fair chance that Zigaboo Modeliste is playing drums here and on tracks like Working In A Coalmine. But I don’t really know.

Without further ado, here’s my introduction to New Orleans 2nd line influenced funky drumming by way of Lee Dorsey.
