Having spent many years recording and mixing a variety of styles from Indie to Pop, I have broad knowledge of Pro Tools, Cubase/Nuendo and Reason and experience with Logic and can usually get my head around anything new and exotic, if you are stuck.
Whether you would like to learn about the mysterious world of mic-placement, phase and compression; need guidance with a mix or would like to organise a bespoke course to develop your production skills.
Recording engineer
Working with rock and indy bands is my forte’. I capture their style and vibe and create a recording that represents their sound and artistic vision. I am experienced in pointing mics at things and recording them, getting the instruments sounding good and letting the musicians feel comfortable and the technology do its thing without getting in anybody’s way.
Reaper is my DAW of choice these days as a freelancer. When I was a full-time recording engineer I used Pro Tools. I am just as comfortable with Cubase/ Nuendo and Logic. I can create custom drum tracks using amazing virtual drum instruments, I can remix and re-remix any kind of track.
Producer
As a producer, my strength is working with rock bands, indie bands or singer-songwriters, getting the sound of the whole group onto “tape” and translating the energy and excitement of your performance from the real world to a recording. Although I am not averse to using sequencing and soft-synths where needed, my passion is for capturing the real-world toil and strife of an eager rock band trying to change the musical landscape forever!
